Stephen Talasnik

Originally from Philadelphia, Stephen Talasnik attended both the Rhode Island School of Design
and the Tyler School of Art. His interest in bamboo was developed during the late 80's when
he lived in Japan and traveled throughout the Far East. Specifically he was inspired by scaffolding
in China and vernacular architecture in Thailand, the Philippines, and Vietnam.

His work in drawing and sculpture is informed by the visual language of engineering. Without the
use of mathematics he builds improvised or intuitively designed structures that reference the
urban landscape. His most recent large scale outdoor project was the construction of a roller coaster
like structure entitled "Stream" at the Storm King Art Center in New York State.

He exhibits internationally and is included in the collections of the Metropolitan Museum of Art, NY;
the Albertina, Vienna, Austria; the State Museum of Berlin, Germany; the National Gallery of Art,
Washington DC; and the British Museum, London to name a few. He lives and works in New York City.
